The Eastern Regional Police Command has called on MTN Ghana to urgently address persistent mobile network issues along key routes in the region, including the Adukrom-Aseseeso, Aseseeso-Somanya stretch, and the Donkorkrom enclave. The appeal comes amid rising concerns that criminals are exploiting weak connectivity to target unsuspecting commuters and residents.
At the 2025 Stakeholders Forum held in Koforidua, Eastern Regional Operations Commander ASP Agyare Kofi Okyere underscored how poor mobile coverage is hindering police response efforts and enabling armed robberies.
“The Adukrom-Aseseeso stretch has a poor connection, and criminals are taking advantage of both the bad roads and weak network coverage to strike,” he stated.
Deputy Regional Commander ACP Richard Appiah also raised alarms over the increasing number of attacks on mobile money (MoMo) vendors in the area. He said the police are working closely with vendors to implement safety measures and promote situational awareness.
“MoMo vendor attacks remain a major concern. We’re advising them to avoid counting cash openly, operate from secure cages, and keep police emergency contacts readily available,” ACP Appiah noted.
The police believe that improved mobile network infrastructure—coupled with vendor cooperation and community vigilance—can significantly reduce robbery incidents in the region.
