Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike in a deal expected to exceed £70 million.
Talks between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, with multiple sources suggesting that Liverpool are aiming to finalize the transfer by this weekend.
Frankfurt recently rejected a £70m bid from Newcastle United for the 22-year-old striker, but Liverpool are prepared to go higher as they prioritize bringing in a new central attacker.
Ekitike, who joined Frankfurt last summer, is understood to be open to a move to Anfield, where he would join the Premier League champions as part of a growing summer rebuild.
While Liverpool have also expressed strong interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, the Magpies have firmly stated that the Swedish forward is not for sale at any price.
So far this transfer window, Liverpool have been active, landing midfield star Florian Wirtz in a potential British record £116m deal, along with full-backs Milos Kerkez (£40m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£30m).
With Liverpool ramping up their pursuit of Ekitike, Newcastle are expected to shift focus to Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, with talks likely to intensify within the next 24 hours.
