Ghanaian international footballer Thomas Partey has made his first public appearance on social media since being charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault earlier this month.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal midfielder reacted to an Instagram post shared by his fiancée, Janine Mackson, on 16 July. The post featured photos from a recent family trip to southern France, including images of Mackson and the couple’s daughter, born in January 2024, enjoying time by the seaside and relaxing at a resort.

Partey responded to the post with three heart emojis—his first public interaction on social media since charges were announced.

Criminal Charges

Partey was formally charged by the Metropolitan Police on 5 July 2025 with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Authorities allege the offences occurred between 2021 and 2022, involving three separate women.

  • Two rape charges relate to one woman
  • Three further rape charges involve a second woman
  • The sexual assault charge concerns a third complainant

Since the allegations became public, Partey has kept a low profile, having previously been active on platforms where he regularly shared updates on his professional and personal life.

The midfielder, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for £45 million, left the London club earlier this summer on a free transfer. He is currently without a club, though reports suggest he remains eligible to play while legal proceedings are ongoing.

Ongoing Reaction

The case has sparked widespread discussion and reactions across social and traditional media. Some of the alleged victims have claimed they’ve received threats and abuse since coming forward, including death threats linked to Partey’s football performances.

No official court date has been set at this time. Both Partey’s legal team and representatives have not yet made public statements regarding the charges.
