Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has directed the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to compile a comprehensive inventory of all uncompleted educational infrastructure projects across the country.

This move aims to facilitate the timely completion of stalled projects and improve the quality of education nationwide.

The directive was issued during the swearing-in ceremony of the Accra Technical University Council on July 22.

According to Iddrisu, the inventory will enable the Ministry to develop a clear plan to address the issue of abandoned projects, some of which date back to 2012 and 2014.

These projects not only represent infrastructural gaps but also serious financial and constitutional concerns.

Iddrisu emphasized the importance of completing these projects, citing Article 35 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which requires successive governments to continue projects initiated by their predecessors.

He noted that the failure to complete these projects has resulted in significant financial burdens on the state and taxpayers.

In addition to addressing the issue of uncompleted projects, Iddrisu urged the newly sworn-in council to expedite the process of appointing a Vice-Chancellor for Accra Technical University, which has been without one for the past two years.

Iddrisu stressed that the vacancy would necessarily affect the university’s management and hoped the council would consider it a matter of urgent action.
