Public transport fares across Ghana are set to increase by 20% starting Friday, August 8, 2025. This adjustment will affect all shared taxis, intra-city services (trotro), intercity transport, and haulage vehicles.

The Road Transport Operators announced the new fares, explaining that the decision was based on several factors, including:

  • The failure of spare parts and service prices to decrease following a 15% fare reduction in May.
  • A newly introduced GH¢1.00 per liter fuel levy, which has resulted in an estimated 8% increase in fuel prices.
  • Rising vehicle maintenance costs due to the poor condition of roads nationwide.

Transport operators have been instructed to display the new fare lists at their loading terminals, and the public is urged to cooperate with the revised prices.
