Accra, Ghana – Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has raised concerns about a surge in infections among female students at Nungua Senior High School, linking the problem directly to the persistent water shortages in her Krowor Constituency.
For years, communities within the constituency have faced challenges with limited access to clean water, which disrupts daily life and creates serious health risks. Speaking with Citi News on Tuesday, August 5, the Member of Parliament for Krowor noted that while she has provided water to the school through private tankers, a more sustainable, long-term solution is urgently needed.
“Whenever there is a water shortage in the constituency, Nungua SHS is among the hardest hit,” she said. “I’ve heard countless stories of young girls suffering infections due to the acute lack of water. I often have to step in and supply water through tankers, but that alone is not enough.”
The Minister is calling on relevant authorities and stakeholders to intervene and help resolve the water crisis to safeguard the health and well-being of the students.
