The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Bole Township and surrounding communities in the Savannah Region, following renewed chieftaincy tensions that have sparked security concerns in the area.
According to a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the curfew will be in effect daily from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, beginning Wednesday, August 27, and will remain in place until further notice.
The decision, the Minister explained, was made based on recommendations from the National Security Council and formalized through an Executive Instrument.
“The government urges all chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to remain calm and resolve their grievances through non-violent means to maintain peace in the area,” the statement read.
To support enforcement of the curfew, the Ministry announced additional security directives, including:
- A ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, and offensive weapons during the curfew period. Violators will be arrested and prosecuted.
- A prohibition on riding in pairs or groups on motorbikes.
- A ban on the wearing of war regalia, which will remain in effect throughout the day.
The government continues to call for restraint and cooperation from all stakeholders as it works to restore calm and prevent further escalation of tensions.
