Asante Kotoko clinched their third consecutive win in the Ghana Premier League by edging past Berekum Chelsea with a narrow 1-0 win on Monday evening at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi ahead of Sunday’s Super Clash against Hearts of Oak.
This latest success propels them to the 7th spot on the league table, boasting 19 points, five points adrift of Aduana FC, the current league leaders, following 13 games.
It was a tightly contested encounter, with both teams creating scoring opportunities, however, it was Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala who proved to be the decisive factor, scoring the crucial goal in the 40th minute to secure three points for the Porcupine Warriors.
Mukwala scored from a counter-attack, showcasing determination as he refused to relent, even after initially failing to connect properly with a shot from a promising position. He persisted and managed to put the ball into the net from close range.
With this third consecutive victory, Asante Kotoko are steadily regaining ground in the league standings. The upcoming fixture poses a formidable challenge as they square off against their traditional rivals, Hearts of Oak in Kumasi.
On the other hand, Berekum Chelsea maintains their 6th position with 20 points, just one point ahead of Asante Kotoko. Eager to rebound from this narrow defeat, they will set their sights on a strong comeback when they clash against Great Olympics in their next fixture.
