Ghana’s High Court has issued an arrest warrant for Sedina Christine Attionu Tamakloe, the former CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) who was convicted in absentia.
The warrant follows a request from state prosecutors after Tamakloe failed to return to Ghana following a medical leave abroad.
Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah had vowed to pursue Tamakloe’s extradition to serve her 10-year sentence.
Tamakloe and her former colleague, Daniel Axim (who received a 5-year sentence) were found guilty of 78 charges including causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and violating public procurement laws.
The convictions stem from financial irregularities at MASLOC between 2013 and 2016. Examples include:
- Withdrawing a GH₵500,000 loan and demanding an unreasonable 24% interest rate when it was refused.
- Misappropriating over GH¢1.7 million allocated for a MASLOC event.
- Distributing only a fraction of funds intended to aid victims of a fire incident.
- Purchasing vehicles and phones for MASLOC at inflated prices.
Axim, who testified in court, did not call any witnesses. Tamakloe, however, absconded after being granted permission for a medical check-up.
