Ghana’s U-17 men’s soccer team, the Black Starlets, clinched a 5-1 win over Serbia in the UEFA U-16 Youth Invitational Tournament early on Friday.
The Starlets had been thrashed 3-1 by hosts Russia in their first game on Wednesday and wanted an opportunity to obliterate that memory.
And it came on Friday morning when they flew high against Serbia with a 5-1 thumping of the Europeans.
Goals from Abdulai Nortey, Benjamin Hanson, David Koranteng, Ebenezer Anane and Benjamin Tsevanyo were enough to boost the confidence of the teenagers, going into the final game against Kazakhstan on Sunday.
The UEFA U-16 International Development Tournament serves as preparatory tournament for Laryea Kingston’s boys ahead of the WAFU U-17 tournament coming up next month.
The three European nations are also using it for Euro U-17 Championships coming up later in the year.
