Churches across the UK are displaying banners urging political leaders to prioritize poverty reduction.
The campaign, led by the Methodist, Baptist, and United Reformed churches, alongside Let’s End Poverty and Christian Aid, aims to make poverty a key election issue.
Churches in the constituencies of party leaders, including Keir Starmer, Ed Davey, and Rishi Sunak, are displaying the banners, which read ‘Let’s End Poverty in the UK and globally’.
Paul Morrison, policy advisor for the Joint Public Issues Team, emphasized the importance of addressing poverty, citing rising destitution and child poverty rates.
New research reveals that nearly one in three primary school teachers in England report pupils arriving at school hungry, and 40% say children come to class without adequate clothing.
The campaign urges leaders to take action to address these issues.
