The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the appointment of Brendon McCullum as the new head coach of the men’s white-ball team, in addition to his existing role as Test coach.
McCullum, a former New Zealand cricketer, will take on the dual role from January 2025, replacing Matthew Mott who stepped down after the T20 World Cup.
McCullum has already made a significant impact as Test coach, leading a successful turnaround alongside captain Ben Stokes.
He expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge, saying, “I’m eager to work closely with Jos Buttler and the team to build on the strong foundations already in place.” McCullum’s appointment is part of a unified coaching structure envisioned by men’s director of cricket Rob Key.
Marcus Trescothick will serve as interim head coach for the upcoming series against Australia and in the Caribbean, with McCullum’s first assignment being a tour of India before the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
