Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei is in critical condition after being set on fire by her former boyfriend in Kenya.
The 33-year-old marathon runner suffered burns to over 75% of her body and is being treated at a hospital in Eldoret.
The attack occurred at her home in Endebess, where she was training, and is believed to be related to a dispute over land ownership.
This incident is part of a disturbing trend of violence against female athletes in Kenya, with several recent cases resulting in death.
Cheptegei, who competed in the Paris Olympics and won gold at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships, is fighting for her life. The alleged attacker also sustained serious burns and is being treated at the same hospital. An investigation is underway.
