A 30-year-old illegal miner, Kwadwo Owusu, lost his life in a tragic drowning accident at Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, during a break from mining activities.
According to fellow miners, Owusu may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, which led to his fatal fall into a small trench created by an excavator.
The incident has raised concerns about safety practices and alcohol consumption among miners in the area.
Following the tragedy, local police arrived at the scene and transported the body to a mortuary for preservation.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident follows the recent deaths of two young twins who fell into an abandoned galamsey pit filled with water in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.
This marks the eighth fatality due to uncovered galamsey pits in the district this year.
