Lee Carsley, England’s interim head coach, emphasized that only the “best” candidate will do for the permanent job, deflecting questions about his own chances.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s match against Finland at Wembley, Carsley expressed confidence in the Football Association’s (FA) ability to make the right appointment.

Fresh from a convincing 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in his debut game, Carsley remains focused on short-term goals. “I’m not thinking about myself, I’m thinking about what’s best for England,” he said. “The best person will get the job, and I’m comfortable with my role for now.”

With captain Harry Kane set to earn his 100th cap, Carsley is expected to make a few changes to keep his squad fresh. “We’ll make two or three changes, but not wholesale ones,” he explained.

“We need to protect our players while maintaining a strong team.”

As the search for Gareth Southgate’s successor continues, Carsley is set to remain in charge for the autumn. With no new injuries reported, he’s poised to lead England to another victory.”
