Former President John Dramani Mahama officially submitted his nomination forms for the 2024 presidential election on Monday, September 9, 2024.
The submission took place at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters in Accra.
Mahama’s forms were presented by a prominent delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The delegation was led by National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and included General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, Director of Elections Omane Boamah, along other key party executives.
The event marked a significant step in Mahama’s bid for the presidency as he seeks to return to the highest office in Ghana.
Following the submission, Asiedu Nketiah raised concerns about the ongoing electoral process and cautioned the EC to be a fair arbiter.
According to him, the party had serious concerns with the voter register but will continue to engage the election management body to ensure that the right things are done ahead of the December 7 polls.
The next phase will involve the review and verification of the nomination forms by the EC, setting the stage for the December elections.
Earlier in the day, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia submitted his nomination forms.
He was accompanied by his wife Samira Bawumia, his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and his wife Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh.
Party executives, including the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, General Secretary Justin Koduah Frimpong, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other leading members of the NPP, were also at the EC to provide support and solidarity.
Several other presidential candidates also made their official bid for the December 2024 elections by submitting their nomination forms on Monday, September 9, 2024.
Among the candidates were Dr. Hassan Ayariga, representing the All People’s Congress (APC), Samuel Apea-Danquah of Yellow Ghana, and independent candidate George Twum Barima Adu.
Notably, Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, joined them in filing his nomination at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) office.
Kofi Akpaloo, the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) also filed his nomination forms.
