The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has uncovered several instances of malpractice during the recent West African School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Council has vowed to take decisive action against exam officials and candidates involved in these infractions.
Some of the identified malpractices include photocopying and distributing answers to candidates, concealing foreign material in examination halls, and smuggling mobile phones into exam venues.
WAEC has emphasized that it will not tolerate such behavior and will impose appropriate sanctions on those found guilty.
The Council has expressed its gratitude to stakeholders who reported institutions planning to cheat during the examination. Their vigilance played a crucial role in preserving the integrity of the WASSCE.
A total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females, registered for the examination, which was administered at 1,000 centers across the country. The WASSCE commenced on August 5 and concluded on September 20.
