Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chairman of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, has assured Ghanaians that the team will not duplicate the efforts of existing state anti-corruption agencies.
The ORAL team, which includes key figures like former Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo, retired Commissioner of Police Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer, is part of President-elect John Mahama’s strategy to enforce accountability and restore public trust in the public sector.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Ablakwa emphasized that the ORAL team’s role is purely preparatory. He clarified that its main focus is on coordinating efforts and gathering evidence to support the recovery of looted state resources, ensuring it complements, rather than duplicates, the work of other anti-corruption bodies.
“This team will not duplicate the efforts of any state institutions. We are coordinating and gathering evidence to work alongside these institutions,” Ablakwa stated. “This is part of a transitional process to address issues like attempts to regularize loot or abscond with resources. It will help us salvage what can be saved, halt the losses, and gather evidence during this critical period.”
He reassured the public that the ORAL team would collaborate with existing institutions, which will eventually take over the efforts. “This is not a team to duplicate,” he concluded.
