Former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general elections as both shocking and deeply disappointing.
Jinapor acknowledged that the outcome caught many within the party off guard.
“2024—we didn’t win, and that was a very difficult moment. A long night. The real issue about the 2024 election was the unexpected nature of the results,” he said.
Reflecting on his own reaction, he admitted, “If anybody had told me before the election that we would come out with that kind of result, I would have doubted it completely.”
Despite the disappointment, Jinapor emphasized the importance of respecting the will of the electorate.
“As they say, the voice of the people is the voice of God. The people have spoken, and spoken very loudly. We must accept it and move forward.”
The NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat marked a significant turning point, with the party losing both the presidency and its parliamentary majority—a result that has reshaped Ghana’s political landscape.
Jinapor’s remarks serve as both a moment of reflection and a call for renewal within the NPP as it charts its path forward.
