Accra Academy Senior High School has responded to growing public concern following the circulation of a viral video showing one of its students attacking a peer with a machete.
In a statement released on Sunday, January 21, 2024, the school confirmed that the incident took place on January 17 but was not reported until the video surfaced on social media.
The school immediately launched an investigation and identified all the students involved, contacting their parents. The main perpetrator has now been handed over to the police for further questioning.
All students involved in the incident—who were all day students—have been suspended pending further investigation. The individuals identified as perpetrators are Shadad Aliu (Kester), Haleem Jibril (Chopper), Ahmed Dauda (Foreigner), and Richard Ninsin (Poisonous), while the victims are Samuel Ussher, Kingsford Quayson, Stephen Oteng, and Dominic Awuku Adjei.
Preliminary findings suggest that the machete used in the assault was brought from home and was not sourced from the school premises.
The school’s disciplinary committee is currently managing the case, and updates will be provided to all concerned parties.
Accra Academy assured parents and guardians that they are taking the incident seriously and remain committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students.
