Accra, Ghana – Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Minister of State-Designate for Special Initiatives, has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the establishment of the Women’s Bank if his nomination is approved.

During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr. Agyekum emphasized the importance of fulfilling the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to create a dedicated financial institution for women entrepreneurs.

“If I have the opportunity, it is one of the key things I would like to roll out as soon as possible. It is a promise we made to most Ghanaians,” he stated. “For example, a woman in Nkoranza today will be sitting there and will ask me about the promise made by John Dramani Mahama during the campaign on the establishment of the Women’s Bank so they have the facility to do their business. I think it is a promise we made to Ghanaians, and we have to do it as soon as possible.”

The Women’s Bank, a flagship initiative of the NDC, aims to empower women in business by providing tailored financial products and resources.

The proposed bank would be managed exclusively by women, focusing on the specific challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.

Mr. Agyekum expressed optimism about the bank’s potential to transform women-led businesses and promote gender-inclusive development.

The initiative has been touted as a significant step towards enhancing economic inclusion and addressing gender disparities in access to financial resources, particularly for women in rural communities.
