Ahead of Ghana’s upcoming elections on December 7, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged citizens to prioritize peace and ensure a fair electoral process.
He emphasized the need to protect the country’s democratic values, which he described as a precious national asset.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Anglican Church in Accra, as part of his three-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, the President reiterated his commitment to a peaceful election.
He appealed to all Ghanaians to ensure the election process is conducted in a peaceful manner, upholding the nation’s democratic ideals.
“My message is clear: globally, when Africa is discussed in terms of democracy, Ghana is seen as the beacon of democratic governance,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He reminded Ghanaians that this would be the ninth consecutive election where citizens have the right to choose their leaders. “Every four years, the people of Ghana are given the power to decide who will lead them. This Saturday, we will again show the world that we value and practice democratic governance,” he added.
The President called on the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the government to ensure everything is in place for a peaceful, free, and fair election. “I appeal to all to ensure that next Saturday’s election is peaceful, free, and fair,” he urged.
