Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has committed to ensuring a smooth and seamless transfer of power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

Akufo-Addo made the pledge during the inauguration of the 2024 National Transition Team on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The event marked a key moment in Ghana’s democratic process, as it brought together members of both the outgoing and incoming administrations to officially begin the transition of power.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his determination to provide the incoming government with the necessary resources and support to ensure a successful start.

He emphasized that a smooth transition is not just a formality but a responsibility owed to the people of Ghana.

“I assure President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his team of my full support, and that of my government, during the transition process, to ensure that his administration is set up for success,” Akufo-Addo said.

The outgoing President also underscored the importance of continuity in governance and called for collaborative efforts between the two teams to ensure an efficient handover of responsibilities.

In response, President-elect Mahama expressed his gratitude to Akufo-Addo and the outgoing administration for their commitment to a peaceful transition.

He highlighted the significance of the process in promoting national unity and stability.

Acknowledging the challenges facing the country, including economic and security concerns, Mahama pledged to work closely with the outgoing administration to address these issues effectively.

“The President has briefed me on the security situation, both internal and external, as well as on economic matters. The transition teams will delve deeper into these issues, and we will work together for the good of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition,” Mahama stated.
