President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards any attempts to destabilize Ghana’s democracy ahead of the December 7 general elections.
In his address at the National Best Farmer Awards, the president emphasized his firm commitment to maintaining peace and security during this crucial electoral period.
He highlighted Ghana’s rich democratic values, stating that ensuring the integrity of the electoral process is a top priority.
President Akufo-Addo reminded the audience of the sacrifices and hard work that have contributed to building a stable democracy, one that serves as a model for others in Africa and beyond.
He acknowledged the contributions of past leaders, civil society organizations, and the Ghanaian people in creating a peaceful political environment, emphasizing that it is now the duty of all Ghanaians to safeguard this legacy.
The president urged citizens, political leaders, and their supporters to prioritize unity and peace, insisting that Ghana’s democratic principles must be protected from any threats. “As we approach the 2024 general elections, let me make it absolutely clear: I am committed to free, fair, and transparent elections. Ghana’s democracy is a treasure we have all fought to build, and it is a legacy that must be preserved.
“The sovereign will of the Ghanaian people will be upheld, and any attempts to disrupt peace or undermine the democratic process will be met with the full force of the law. Let there be no doubt that our democracy will remain strong, and the people’s choice will prevail.”
