The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been completely vandalized for the second time.

The first act of damage took place on December 16, 2024, when unknown perpetrators damaged one of the statue’s legs. Although repairs were quickly carried out, the motives behind the attack remain unclear, and no arrests were made.

Now, less than a week after Akufo-Addo left office, the statue has been fully toppled. Erected to honor his administration’s efforts in improving healthcare access and infrastructure in the region, the monument had symbolized the significant progress made during his tenure.

This latest incident raises concerns about the security of such national symbols and the ongoing protection of monuments meant to commemorate important contributions to the country’s development.
