Military Secretary of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Air Commodore Nana Adu Gyamfi, has supported claims that Richard Jakpa was dishonourably discharged from the GAF.
Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, during the cross-examination of Jakpa, presented documents indicating that the third accused was released from the military for unsatisfactory service and failure to pass promotional exams.
In an attempt to refute these claims, Jakpa’s lawyers subpoenaed the military secretary to testify.
Thaddeus Sory, leading Jakpa’s legal team, suggested during questioning that Jakpa’s discharge was solely based on regulations related to inefficiency.
While the military secretary confirmed this, he clarified that the discharge was also a result of specific misconduct determined after disciplinary proceedings.
During cross-examination by the Attorney General, Air Commodore Gyamfi submitted two documents requested by Jakpa in his subpoena.
The first document, a report on Jakpa’s conduct in the military, described his behaviour as indisciplined, lackadaisical, and unprofessional. It detailed incidents such as Jakpa parking a military vehicle overnight at his home outside the barracks, dismissing the driver, and leaving the vehicle unattended.
The report also noted instances where Jakpa failed to return to the military base, including an instance where he did not return after training in Accra.
Additionally, it stated that he took $400 from a Lebanese businessman while on a mission in Lebanon and failed to refund it.
Further, the report mentioned that Jakpa delayed delivering money and items from Ghanaians in Beirut until he was instructed to do so.
When asked if any of these issues indicated that the second accused was released honourably, Air Commodore Adu Gyamfi responded in the negative.
