Rúben Amorim has admitted he may need to step down as Manchester United manager if the team’s disappointing form continues into next season.

United’s struggles hit a new low with a 2-0 defeat at home to West Ham — a side that had gone eight games without a win — further deepening concerns about the direction of the club.

“If we carry this form into next season, I won’t be the right person to lead this team,” Amorim conceded after the match. “We are starting to lose that sense of pride — the feeling that losing at Old Trafford is unacceptable.”

The Portuguese coach raised concerns about the team’s mentality, suggesting a dangerous complacency has crept into the club’s culture. “If Manchester United is no longer afraid to lose, that’s the most dangerous thing that can happen to a big club,” he warned.

Since January 26, United have recorded league wins only against already-relegated Ipswich and Leicester. The latest defeat extends their winless streak in the Premier League to seven matches — equaling their worst ever run in the competition.

“There are a lot of serious conversations that need to happen,” Amorim said. “Everyone is focused on the Europa League final, but that’s not the main issue. The problems run deeper — it’s about the club’s culture, the team’s mindset, and myself as well.”

Describing the situation as a “decisive moment in the club’s history,” Amorim emphasized the need for decisive action during the off-season.

“We must be bold this summer,” he concluded. “We can’t allow another season like this one.”
