Dr. Clement Apaak, Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee, has strongly criticized the government for its failure to settle the GH¢118 million debt owed to the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

He warned that the continued delay in payment has serious consequences.

The unpaid arrears have resulted in the suspension of the release of the 2024 WASSCE results.

WAEC issued a statement urging the government to expedite payment to allow for repairs on essential equipment needed to scan objective cards and facilitate the release of the results.

Dr. Apaak described the government’s delay as unacceptable.

“The results of students who sat for WASSCE earlier this year are being withheld because the government has not fulfilled its financial commitment to WAEC. This is condemnable,” he said.

He further called on the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government to urgently clear the debt, warning, “Failure to do so, as we are witnessing, will have serious implications for the future of our students and the academic schedules of our tertiary institutions.”
