Black Stars legend Stephen Appiah has expressed his disappointment and frustration over CAF’s decision to deem the Baba Yara Sports Stadium unfit to host international games.
The ruling means that Ghana is currently without a stadium suitable for hosting international football matches.
Appiah’s comments follow the recent 1-0 defeat to Angola in a 2025 AFCON qualifier, where both Angola’s coach Pedro Goncalves and Ghana’s coach Otto Addo criticized the poor quality of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch.
In a viral X post, Appiah emphasized the importance of hosting Ghana’s own games and protecting the country’s football pride.
He expressed his disappointment at the prospect of playing qualifiers outside of Ghana, except during tournaments.
Appiah, a former Juventus and Fenerbache midfielder, led Ghana to its first FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006 and competed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
His strong stance on the issue highlights the growing concern among Ghanaian football fans and officials regarding the state of the country’s football infrastructure.
