London, England – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club is “actively looking” to sign a striker in the January transfer window to address the injury-related absences of key attacking players.
The Gunners have been significantly impacted by the long-term injuries of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, leaving them short on attacking options.
“My opinion is clear that we lost two very very important players, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. So we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the frontline, it’s clear,” Arteta said.
While acknowledging the need for reinforcements, Arteta emphasized that the club will only pursue signings that will genuinely improve the team.
“It doesn’t just depend on Arsenal, on Mikel or our will,” Arteta said. “It depends on the market and a lot of different factors.”
Arsenal have been linked with players like RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, but Arteta declined to comment on specific targets.
Despite the need for reinforcements, Arteta highlighted the resilience of his current squad. “The team still copes with that,” he said.
The Arsenal boss also emphasized the importance of understanding a player’s character beyond their on-field statistics. “I have seen it, I sense it,” Arteta said. “A player can score a lot of goals, great. How does this player react when he hasn’t scored for six or seven games? This is what I am interested in.”
