Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have announced their withdrawal from the Capital City Africa Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States on Saturday, October 12.
The club cited visa challenges faced by their players and technical team as the primary reason for their decision.
Kotoko, who were set to face DC United after their victory over Hearts of Oak in the 2024 Democracy Cup, had sent a contingent to the US with hopes of securing visas for the rest of the team.
However, despite their efforts, they were unable to resolve the visa issues in time.
In an official statement released on Thursday, October 10, the club expressed their disappointment at having to withdraw from the prestigious tournament. “Despite ongoing discussions with the event organizers and the expectation that the visa challenges faced by our contingent would be resolved by Thursday evening, the necessary visas for our full squad and technical team have unfortunately not been secured in time,” the statement read.
Kotoko apologized to their fans for the inconvenience caused by their withdrawal and assured them that they would be focusing on their domestic commitments in the Ghana Premier League.
The first contingent of players and staff currently in the US will return to Ghana on Sunday, October 13.
