His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to achieving lasting peace in Bawku and its neighboring communities in the Upper East Region, vowing to bring an end to the long-standing chieftaincy dispute that has plagued the area.
This renewed assurance from the revered traditional leader comes after previous peace initiatives faced temporary setbacks due to the persistent conflict. Despite these challenges, the Asantehene remains hopeful that the current round of dialogue between the feuding parties will ultimately yield a sustainable resolution.
Addressing a visiting delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II underscored the vital role of peace as a fundamental prerequisite for national development and progress.
“To achieve development, we need peace. It is our responsibility, as traditional leaders, to resolve conflicts and create a stable environment that enables the government to function effectively,” the Asantehene stated emphatically.
Referring specifically to the recent tensions and disturbances in Bawku, near Ghana’s northern border with Burkina Faso, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II reaffirmed his resolute determination to actively mediate and restore harmony to the troubled region.
“Though there have been recent disturbances in Bawku, we are doing everything possible to ensure a permanent and peaceful solution,” he added, conveying a strong sense of resolve to bring closure to the protracted conflict. For the people of Bawku and the nation as a whole, the Asantehene’s continued commitment offers a beacon of hope for a peaceful and prosperous future in the Upper East Region.
