A devastating fire has swept through Suame Garages in the Ashanti Region, leaving spare parts dealers and artisans facing significant losses.
The fire broke out late on Friday, January 31, 2025, ravaging multiple workshops and spare parts stores. The blaze destroyed properties worth millions of cedis, leaving little more than ashes in its wake.
Many victims believe the fire was caused by an electrical fault and have reported losing substantial amounts of inventory and equipment. With their livelihoods disrupted, the affected traders are now left stranded and uncertain of how to rebuild.
Although the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the emergency, some traders expressed frustration with the delayed response, claiming it didn’t prevent the scale of the damage.
Additionally, some victims criticized the Ghana National Association of Garages for failing to allocate space for a fire station in the area.
They stressed the urgent need for such a facility, given the high volume of flammable materials and equipment in the garages.
