The Ashanti Regional leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has summoned the party’s constituency executives in Asante Mampong following violent protests linked to the alleged nomination of a new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

On Thursday, tensions escalated when a group of aggrieved NDC supporters stormed the party’s constituency office, vandalizing property and setting some items ablaze.

The unrest was reportedly sparked by claims that Esther Dwomoh had been nominated for the MCE position, despite no official confirmation from the Presidency.

The protesting youth argue that only three candidates were shortlisted after a vetting process—2024 Parliamentary Candidate Yakubu Issifu, current Constituency Chairman Mohammed Kamil, and Imoro Iddrisu—and insist that one of them should be appointed.

Speaking to Citi News, Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Baah Acheamfour, confirmed that steps are being taken to address the issue.

“The regional chairman has invited the constituency leadership for discussions. We’re currently attending a National Executive Committee meeting in Accra, after which we will meet them to find a resolution not only for Mampong but also for other affected constituencies,” Acheamfour stated.

He urged party members to remain calm and allow due process to unfold, emphasizing respect for the President’s authority in making appointments.

“We respect the President’s decision and the processes followed by the vetting committee. If there are any concerns or misunderstandings, members should seek clarity through the appropriate channels,” he added.
