Nana Ato Dadzie, the lawyer representing social media activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has pledged to identify the individual responsible for spreading a false bribery claim involving members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Appointments Committee.
The allegation, which had circulated within political circles, claimed that members of the committee were accepting bribes from ministerial nominees in exchange for their approval.
However, Dadzie previously informed the committee that this accusation was baseless and denied any involvement from his client.
Nana Ato Dadzie emphasized the importance of finding the source of the misinformation. “Obviously, we need to pursue this matter… It is in our interest to actually find out who published that,” Dadzie stated.
Meanwhile, Barker-Vormawor has apologized to the Appointments Committee, clarifying that his earlier social media post was never intended to accuse the committee members of bribery. Appearing before the committee in Accra on Wednesday, Barker-Vormawor said: “I am saying here clearly that my post was not intended to disparage members of the committee, and I have not intended to say that members of this committee have received or demanded bribes from various individuals. At no point was my statement intended to communicate the same, and for those reasons, I apologize.”
Barker-Vormawor also addressed his decision to leave the post online, explaining: “The reason why I have left the post on was because I saw that the words had been twisted, and it became imperative for me to maintain the post in its original form so that, if questioned on it, reference could be made for verification.”
He further signaled his intention to resolve the issue amicably, offering to remove the post in order to clear up any misunderstandings.
