Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, has vowed to prioritize efficiency and fiscal discipline in managing state resources, pledging to lead efforts in cutting wasteful government spending.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dr. Forson stressed the importance of eliminating inefficiencies in government expenditure as a central strategy to stabilize Ghana’s economy.
He emphasized the need for judicious use of the country’s resources and reiterated that wasteful spending must be curtailed.
“Governance is not about borrowing and borrowing,” Dr. Forson remarked. “It’s time to cut the waste, and I’ll lead the charge.”
The Finance Minister-designate also acknowledged the importance of collaborating with development partners to access affordable financing when necessary. He assured the Committee that while reducing waste is his top priority, he remains open to securing low-cost funding through international partnerships, should the need arise.
Dr. Forson’s comments reflect a shift in fiscal management priorities, focusing on accountability, sustainability, and rebuilding public trust in financial governance. His approach aims to address Ghana’s economic challenges while ensuring more responsible use of public funds.
