Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine

Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that he authorized the arrest of Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on February 23, 2025, at his residence in Kawukudi, near Nima, Greater Accra Region. He is under investigation regarding financial matters during his time as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).

His lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, reported that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was taken into custody by NIB operatives who arrived at his home and requested his presence at the NIB offices. He cooperated and was subsequently transferred to the NIB’s Kawukudi office.

During a media interview on March 3, 2025, Dr. Ayine confirmed his authorization of the arrest, stating, “Yes, I did.”

He further explained, “Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested and questioned, and he did admit that the $2 million was paid for no work done. We’re still investigating the circumstances of the payment and those who were involved.”
