The body of a baby has been recovered from a VIP bus involved in an accident on the Kumasi-Obuasi highway, raising the death toll to fourteen.
The discovery was made by towing service personnel tasked with removing the bus, which had veered into a ditch, resulting in multiple fatalities. As of 24 hours post-accident, the parents of the baby have not yet been identified.
Among the deceased, three were minors. The accident has claimed fourteen lives, with thirteen fatalities occurring at the scene.
Of the eight injured individuals taken to the Obuasi Government Hospital, six have been treated and discharged, while two remain under medical care.
Peace Mati, the Administrator of the Obuasi Government Hospital, reported that some families of the deceased have visited the hospital to identify their loved ones.
Survivors indicated that the bus, registered as ER 2445-11 and en route to Enchi, was overloaded after picking up stranded passengers from a broken-down vehicle. It is believed that a dispute among some frustrated passengers regarding the overload led to the driver losing focus and crashing into the ditch.
