Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is set to deliver a ruling today, Thursday, October 17, on a petition seeking to remove four sitting MPs from the House.
The Minority is requesting the removal of Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison, Suhum MP Kojo Asante, Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah, and Amenfi Central MP Kwakye Ackah for their decisions to contest the upcoming December elections as independent candidates.
One of the affected MPs, Peter Kwakye Ackah, has stated that he is unfazed by the potential ruling.
“I have not declared that I have left the party. I am simply indicating my intention to run as an independent candidate in the next parliament. Just because someone from NPP or NDC wants to go independent does not mean they are leaving their party,” he explained.
“If you take any action, there should be a reaction. You must be prepared for that. If you declare your independence and the Speaker rules that your seat is vacant, what can you do? You cannot contest it because the ruling has already been made.”
