Barcelona and Atletico Madrid played out a sensational 4-4 draw in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona on February 25, 2025.

Atletico Madrid took an early 2-0 lead within the first six minutes, with Julian Alvarez scoring in the first minute and Antoine Griezmann adding a second in the sixth.

However, Barcelona quickly responded, with Pedri and Pau Cubarsi finding the back of the net in quick succession to level the score by the 21st minute.

The Catalan side then took a 3-2 lead into halftime thanks to Iñigo Martínez’s goal in the 41st minute. In the second half, Robert Lewandowski extended Barcelona’s advantage to 4-2 in the 74th minute.

But Atletico mounted a comeback in the final 10 minutes. Marcos Llorente pulled one back in the 84th minute, and substitute Alexander Sorloth scored a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time to make it 4-4.

The second leg of the semifinal will take place at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium in April. The winner of the tie will face either Real Madrid or Real Sociedad, who will play their first-leg match on Wednesday in the Basque Country.
