Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II says recent peace talks in the conflict-ridden Bawku area have resulted in a noticeable reduction in hostilities.
The Asantehene, who is spearheading mediation efforts between the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions, held a series of meetings with representatives from both sides between April 28 and April 30. The discussions were temporarily paused but are expected to continue.
Speaking during a visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to the Manhyia Palace on Monday, May 12, 2025, Otumfuo expressed optimism about the progress made so far.
“We are still working on the issue and will reconvene soon to continue the dialogue. We haven’t concluded, but the initial steps have already brought a degree of calm to the area. We’ll update you and the nation in due time,” he said.
The Asantehene’s involvement is part of a broader national initiative to restore lasting peace to Bawku, a town long plagued by ethnic and chieftaincy-related violence.
