Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 flagbearer, has publicly apologized to Ghanaians for the party’s past mistakes while in government and vowed that the NPP would deliver significantly improved performance if granted another term in office.

Speaking to a large gathering in Goaso during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour” on Monday, April 28, 2025, Dr. Bawumia stated that the party has gleaned valuable lessons from its time in power and assured supporters of its commitment to implementing changes for the better in the future.

“We recognize that we have made mistakes along the way, and we sincerely ask for your forgiveness,” he conveyed to the assembled crowd.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of accountability and clarified that the tour was not merely a celebratory event but also a period of reflection. He expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their sustained support and pledged to rebuild trust between the party and the public.

“We have listened to your concerns, and we are determined to chart a new path forward together,” he added.

While highlighting the NPP’s accomplishments in areas such as digitalization, infrastructure development, and economic stabilization, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that the party has faced challenges and made mistakes. He asserted that the NPP would not offer excuses for its shortcomings but would instead focus on rectifying them.  

“We pledge to correct our lapses and to deliver even better governance in the future,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia called for unity within the NPP and urged Ghanaians to place their faith in the party’s vision for the nation. He underscored the significance of the 2024 election as a pivotal moment for Ghana’s democracy and encouraged the public to move forward with a renewed sense of purpose.  

“We owe it to every Ghanaian to serve with humility, dedication, and an unrelenting commitment to progress,” he concluded.
