An aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has confirmed that all necessary sureties for the bail of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been arranged.
Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini revealed on Friday that the required documentation has been submitted and is currently undergoing verification by the relevant authorities.
“If the verification of the sureties is completed today, the Chairman will be released,” Khomeini wrote on Facebook.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), remains in custody under the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as his legal team works to meet the stringent bail conditions set at GH₵50 million.
Wontumi was detained on Tuesday, May 27, following a summons by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service. He is currently held by EOCO over allegations related to financial misconduct involving transactions with the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIMBANK).
To date, his lawyers have secured one surety and are actively pursuing a second to satisfy the bail requirements fully.
Contrary to circulating rumors, former Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong is not involved as a surety, despite his public offers to assist.
The investigation, which has drawn nationwide attention, focuses on suspected irregular financial activities that may affect public funds and governance. Details remain largely confidential as the probe continues.
Wontumi’s detention has ignited political debate, with supporters calling for his prompt release.
