Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has publicly acknowledged the NPP-led government’s shortcomings and sought forgiveness from Ghanaians, while also asking for renewed support.
During a recent event in London, Dr. Bawumia adopted a humble and reflective stance, admitting that while the NPP had made some progress, it had also committed significant errors during its time in power.
“We accomplished a great deal, no doubt,” he stated. “But we must also admit that we made mistakes—some of them quite serious. On behalf of myself, the party, and the government, I sincerely apologize for the things we got wrong.”
He stressed that the NPP had learned from these experiences and was prepared to govern with greater wisdom and accountability if given the opportunity again.
“With God’s grace and the people’s support, we are confident we can correct our course and deliver more effectively. We’ve taken stock, and we’re ready to do better,” Bawumia added.
His comments follow the party’s poor performance in the 2024 general elections, which has led to calls for reflection and reform within the NPP.
