Good news for Ghanaian football fans in Kumasi and across the nation! The Black Stars have climbed up the FIFA world rankings to 76th place, marking their first upward movement in nearly a year. This positive shift follows their recent consecutive victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
This rise sees Ghana surpass Israel in the global standings, who have dropped two places. The Black Stars’ last upward movement in the FIFA rankings was in July 2024, when they jumped from 64th to 60th.
While this progress on the global stage is encouraging, Ghana still occupies the 14th position among African footballing nations. However, with the highly anticipated Unity Cup 2025 on the horizon, Coach Otto Addo will be aiming for further improvement in the rankings.
The Black Stars are set to face their fierce West African rivals, Nigeria, in a thrilling derby clash at the Unity Cup in London on May 28, 2025. Ghanaian fans will recall their convincing 4-1 victory over the Super Eagles in London previously. The Unity Cup, which also features Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, will take place from May 27th to 31st, 2025.
Looking ahead, Ghana’s journey in the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign will continue in the autumn with crucial matches against Chad, Mali, Central African Republic, and Comoros. The recent climb in the FIFA rankings will undoubtedly provide a morale boost for the team as they prepare for these important fixtures.
