Aitana Bonmati opened the scoring as Barcelona beat Lyon in this year's Women's Champions League final

Spain international Aitana Bonmati is on the verge of signing a new contract with Barcelona, extending her tenure beyond 2025.

The reigning Ballon d’Or holder has attracted interest from top European clubs, including Women’s Super League champions Chelsea.

The 26-year-old midfielder, a product of Barcelona’s academy, has made over 150 appearances for the Catalan club.

Negotiations for a new deal have been ongoing for several months, with both parties optimistic about reaching an agreement that could make Bonmati the world’s highest-paid female player.

Bonmati was recently confirmed as a nominee for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.

She is a strong contender to retain her title after leading Barcelona to their third Women’s Champions League victory, scoring in the final against Lyon.

Additionally, she was named player of the tournament and helped her side secure their fifth consecutive league title.
