Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, has officially conceded defeat.
In a national address on Sunday, December 8, Dr. Bawumia confirmed that he had reached out to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to offer his congratulations.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his full support for a smooth transition process, acknowledging that the election results, based on the NPP’s internal coalition of data, show that Mahama had decisively won the presidential race.
He also noted that the NDC had secured a majority in the parliamentary elections, although final results for some constituencies are still pending.
“The data from our internal coalition of election results indicate that former President John Dramani Mahama has won the Presidential election decisively.
The NDC has also won the parliamentary elections, though we are awaiting final results for some seats. However, this will not alter the overall outcome,” Dr. Bawumia said.
In his address, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his respect for the decision of the Ghanaian people and reiterated his commitment to peace. “I called President-elect John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him. I promised during the signing of the peace pact that Ghana would win and peace would prevail. The people have spoken, and we accept their decision with humility. I thank Almighty God for how far He has brought me, and I submit to His will,” he added.
Despite the NPP’s loss, Dr. Bawumia reassured supporters that the party would reflect on the outcome, learn from the experience, and come back stronger in the future.
