Kumasi, Ghana – Students from Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) and Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS) clashed in a violent incident, resulting in property damage on both campuses.
The incident involved the throwing of stones and other objects, as well as the destruction of four private vehicles on the KASS campus, the KTI school gate, and billboards and notice boards at KTI.
According to KTI Principal Gabriel Kingsford Osei, the clash began when KASS students attacked KTI students with stones and machetes, targeting their school billboard.
He claimed that despite his efforts to de-escalate the situation, KASS students continued the attack, with a security guard even using a catapult to incite the violence.
However, a tutor at KASS, Rev. Father Kenneth Collins Owusu, suggested the clash may have stemmed from arguments during the ongoing inter-schools’ athletics event in Kumasi.
He noted that minor disagreements between students from the two schools often escalate into such confrontations.
The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has intervened, summoning authorities from both schools to find a lasting solution.
The police have also intervened to bring the situation under control, though no arrests have been made as investigations continue.
