Nana Osei Bonsu, the Kyidomhene of Brofoyedru in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has been tragically found dead, allegedly murdered by unidentified assailants.

Richard Nketiah, the Assembly Member for the Mprim Electoral Area, reported that the 48-year-old sub-chief was apparently dragged from his blue Toyota Corolla and shot at close range in the back of the head.

Local residents discovered Nana Osei Bonsu’s body around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, near Mrim, outside Asante Mampong.

He appeared to have been traveling from the Boanim area towards Asante Mampong via Mprim when the attack occurred.

Nketiah noted that part of the road was blocked, and the driver’s side door of the vehicle had been forced open. The sub-chief was found lying face down in a pool of blood, wearing a mauve Lacoste T-shirt and black jeans shorts.

While his mobile phone was missing, other belongings were present, suggesting robbery may not have been the primary motive.

Family members informed Yaw Takyi, the Assembly Member for the Krobo Electoral Area, that Nana Osei Bonsu had left his Kumasi residence on Monday, March 31st, to visit his hometown. He is believed to have been attacked while returning to Brofoyedru.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command in Mampong has confirmed the incident and has launched an investigation.

The body has been taken to the Mampong Government Hospital morgue for examination.
