Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has imposed a curfew on Sampa Township in the Bono Region to maintain peace and order.
Effective October 24, 2024, the curfew will run daily from 10 pm to 6 am until further notice.
This decision was made due to recurring chieftaincy disputes in the area, which have previously led to violence and unrest.
Chieftaincy disputes have plagued the region, prompting previous curfews, including one in June 2024, from 6 pm to 6 am daily.
Another curfew was imposed in September 2024.
The government seeks a lasting solution but recent developments necessitated this curfew.
To ensure resident safety, carrying arms, ammunition or offensive weapons is banned.
Offenders will face arrest and prosecution. The government prioritizes regional peace and order, committing to necessary measures.
The Interior Ministry urges Sampa Township residents, chiefs, opinion leaders and youth to exercise restraint, using non-violent means to resolve grievances.
